Project overview

Superball is a 3v3 team esports arena with unique heroes, high-tempo matches, and a strong community focus. Players shape interfaces and gameplay through open playtests, feedback, and UX testing.

The game was developed in the open through Steam Playtest. Work focused on balance, UX/UI, matchmaking, progression, and combat readability, with decisions informed by observation, feedback, and UX research.

Goal

Validate game modes, interfaces, and mechanics before release; improve UX with player behaviour and real data; gather insights for balance, UI, and progression; and demonstrate rapid test-and-update cycles.

Product stage

Open development; Steam Playtest; release not announced; continuous feedback gathering and live UX iteration.

What I delivered

What I delivered

Acted as UX/UI consultant during the Steam Playtest stage: evaluated game interfaces, implemented hands-on improvements in live builds, analysed player feedback, developed UX Lab recommendations, and delivered UX hotfixes.

Principles and strategy

Principles and strategy

Community-driven design shaped features and UI around player expectations. Fast live iteration, research and UX Lab testing, transparent hypothesis-to-update cycles, and rapid expert response improved readability and removed bottlenecks.

Project highlights

Active community input into balance and UI; live changes published immediately after insights; matchmaking and lobby optimisation; HUD consultation; and accessibility improvements that lower the barrier to entry.

I design experiences that feel cohesive: where design speaks the product’s language and form supports mechanics, systems, and metrics. A beautiful interface is simply the visible outcome of sound architecture.
